Kitchen Design Improvements

Is it possible to increase the number of tables. Currently when I start a custom map, there's only one table. I don't know if this is based on the size of the dining area, but I've made some large dining rooms, and only had the one table.

I've also seen a lot of counters, but I assume that's because every hatch is getting a counter, so that's more on how the kitchen is designed. Not sure if it's possible, but having an option for counterless hatches would be nice.

The Reversed Door option doesn't seem to be explained very well. When I'm designing, and when I see the export image, all of the doors appear to open in the same direction, so I don't know when I should use one versus the other.

Hello!

  • It is already possible to have more tables. You have to change the Profile tab in the header of the editor to Extended or Huge and you should get more tables.
  • The counters are a feature of the game itself where it spawns a counter for each hatch. I might add a feature for that later but for now, I did not want to alter the behaviour of the game itself but instead prepare a layout that the game will use as any other vanilla layout.
  • The reversed door is there mostly for completeness as the game has it in its code. What I suspect it does is just flip the orientation of how the door opens. But to be honest, I never use it myself and I have not investigated too much about what it actually does in the game.

Ah, yeah the size makes sense. I think I've been setting it to Diner since I have been adding a bunch of hatches, and making it look more like an actual diner. I forgot that the diner is actually the smallest.

I kind of figured about the counter spawning being a game feature. It makes sense to make sure you have counters on the map, and by default, pair them with hatches (which the maps don't have a lot of) is a simple way to handle it.

The reverse door is an interesting one. I know I've made a map where the door was in a position that caused it to make a bunch of noise at the beginning, but I don't know if that's an issue of where it was (T intersection of a hatch and the back wall), or the orientation.

I'll have to throw together a map that has both doors in horizontal, and vertical, and see if it actually makes a difference. If there is, maybe you could add a note somewhere to mention which side the different doors attach on.

Sure, I hope to get some time for improvements soon-ish. The tool and the documentation is by far not perfect but I wanted to release something rather than postpone it forever until everything is perfect.

I did come across an issue with one of my designs where it thought the table was inaccessible. I thought it might have been because I had empty space at the bottom of the map (imagine one of the pac-man ghosts). If you think it might be something else, I can make a separate issue and include the map-string.

We found out that the game can behave like that if your layout is too large. The upper limits are something like 20 tiles wide and 17 tile high layouts if you do not want to get problems with inaccessible tables.

Regarding the reversed doors, I made a layout with pairs of adjacent doors. One normal, and one reversed. I was trying to make a double saloon-style door... Like this: __/ \__

But the reversed door seems to be just a regular old door. The kitchen loads just fine, but I cannot see any difference at all between the normal and reversed doors. Maybe the reversed doors are an unimplemented feature in the game?
