CSS snippet not injected into final pandoc output

When using a CSS snippet to change the style of nested lists, the new style of list does not show in the final pandoc PDF output of the source markdown file. Preview mode correctly shows these nested lists, and exporting to PDF the vanilla way also shows the correct list style.

Is there some setting I need to change to get this to work, or is this a true bug? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
