Gmail emails with dots should be treated as the same email
From Bárður on Slack
Hi @Joel. Do you know about Gmail's "dots don't matter" functionality? Basically [email protected] and [email protected] is the same email address This means that everyone with a Gmail account has "almost" an endless amount of email addresses, and can therefore create several OB accounts using the same email address
After checking on Google
Note: If you use Gmail through work, school, or other organization (like yourdomain.com or yourschool.edu), dots do change your address. To change the dots in your username, contact your admin.
If we store gmail addresses with no dots in a custom table, we can check for duplicates when a person is trying to create an account with a gmail address by stripping dots and looking for it there.
Does this require a migration of current gmail addresses?
Also for Google email services: [email protected] is the same as [email protected] see: here
