Tone to noise balance

The balance between noise and tone is a relevant expressive parameter. It is (well known) difficult to get a smoothly changing output corresponding to nuanced changes along this axis. Clear tonal timbre or clear noisy timbre is detected, but the transition and middle ground is not captured with sufficient resolution.
