Update: Contributing guideline on generative AI

Open jgadsden opened this issue 2 weeks ago • 1 comments

What is missing or needs to be updated?

Not so much a single cheat sheet, rather the contributing guideline in CONTRIBUTING.md does not set out the position of the Cheat Sheet project regarding AI

This should not be a problem, but it is - an increasing number of projects (especially projects participating in GSoC) are seeing an marked increase in AI-slop: issues and pull requests that have used generative AI without an understanding of the actual changes requested

How should this be resolved?

Could we have some guidance in CONTRIBUTING.md that sets out this project's attitude to generative AI use in:

  • issue creation
  • issue comments
  • pull request submission

Just like to say that i am not against generative AI, but if not controlled it can use up maintainers' scarce time

I agree. We had a discussion about this a while ago when we had one particularly egregious user submitting terrible slop in an attempt to get into Google Summer of Code. That's when we added the AI question to the PR template. See https://github.com/OWASP/CheatSheetSeries/pull/1836. Do you want to draft something?
