Buildings tagged "location=underground" are rendered above ground
Buildings tagged "location=underground" aren't shown on osm.org and shouldn't either on osmbuildings. It would of course be nice if there was an underground view but just not rendering would be nice!
I agree it should be filtered. Server side would beendigest but the buildings might be relevant. OTOH on client side means passing that information explicitly. Not an easy decision. Do you have experience to what kind of buildings this applies typically?

Sorry for the late response, I don't know a lot of places that use this tag, I just recently mapped this underground cinema: https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/535160619 https://osmbuildings.org/?lat=50.87493&lon=4.70825&zoom=20.0&tilt=40&rotation=197
Overpass shows that for example metro stations use this tag a lot: https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/yWH
I don't know a lot about the data consumers of OSMBuildings but I think underground buildings might still be relevant to some. If it's possible it would indeed be nice if the browser application were to filter them out.
The example is also tagged level = -1 and may be placed -3m anyway. Underground buildings may have a height of <3m by default. That would make it invisible from above and keep the data for cliends.
We're not going to solve this soon but it remains on our list.
