CSV Preview document before slecting separator
Do you want to request a feature or report a bug? A feature What is the current behavior? Open a CSV file, no preview, select separator, document is finally opened : chances are good you did not select the good separator.
What is the expected behavior? Open a CSV file, see it open in background, select separator (you can see how the document is built in background), (bonus feature : get a preview of separated data, like in MS Excel), finally open the document. Which versions of DesktopEditors, and which OS are affected by this issue? Did this work in previous versions of DesktopEditors? 5.2.80.470 windows 10
Hello, @nath5394. Thank you. I can confirm - this is a bug, issue 37796 in our internal issue tracker. We already implemented csv preview in DocumentServer and it will be ported to DesktopEditors in future.
Feature is cool.
What about a button to 'Refresh' data from CSV.. like Excel does.. it would be very nice
@lixaotec could you clarify (maybe show exact documentation of Excel feature), because seems that your statement is not related to original issue

You re right. My suggestions is not directly related.
I was thinking about refreshing an imported CSV with 'Get Data', eventually it changes outsides, and I need to import it again.
Excel does 'ties' imported csv with the original file and let you refresh
In your case I think it's duplicate of https://github.com/ONLYOFFICE/DocumentServer/issues/1478#issuecomment-949740645
In any case - if you need to continue discussion - please create a new issue, it has nothing to do with original issue
I guess this preview functionality had been implemented. At least I can see how text is split to columns both in "Get data" and when convert existing long column using "Text to Columns". nathanael-h can you try with a recent version?
@HectorB-2020 I'm sorry but this issue is still not fully fixed, opening CSV directly still not showing preview in DesktopEditors
Why should it start Preview upon opening an CSV if the format is recognized? MS Excel opens CSV directly without asking to preview and confirm.
Excel opens them directly, but for example do not allow change delimiter on open and opens file with incorrect time and seems that I manually need to change delimiter somewhere in menu
I like our variant (like LibreOffice) asking for delimiter on open
I believe these two issues are related: #1024
I would like to ask if there is any progress on this issue now.
Currently, data preview is only available when importing csv. I hope there will also be a preview when opening csv.
