OBO Academy Challenge 2024

As part of this years training on Collaborative Workflows in Biomedical Ontologies we are organising a community challenge.

Who can participate

Everyone is welcome to participate, but there will be a limit of total submissions we can consider.

Challenge runtime

The challenge runs from 25th July 2024 - 31st August 2024. Submissions welcome until end of day 31st August 2024.

The Challenge

Your task is to contribute to an OBO Ontology Project of your choice that you have not yet contributed to.

Concretely, we ask you to do the following:

1. Open an issue in that project. This issue must be real and concern an actual and relevant problem in that ontology.
2. Open a pull request in that project (that addresses the issue you opened, or another open issue)
3. Engage with the community of that project
   1. Alternative 1: Provide an (possibly unsolicited) review in any pull request in that project OR
   2. Alternative 2: Use your collaboration skills to get your own pull request merged.

A jury of 4 (the tutorial organisers) will select the submission which adheres most to the collaborative principles introduced in this years OBO Academy tutorial (see slides).

Note that there is no guarantee that any specific ontology will be able to review / address your work within the timeframe!
