how to make it run with Obsidian 1.8.10-win
Hi,
I couldn't find any documents or guide manuals here.
I tried running Obsidian-Portable alone, it just did not work for me, The pop-windows told that Obsidian/Obsidian.exe couldn't be found.
Then I downloaded Obsidian 1.8.10 and extracted all files into \App\Obsidian, ended up with nothing, no pop-window anymore but still couldn't to make Obsidian run.
Hello @falltree
Had the same issue and found that we need to execute the command script Updater. It download the latest Obsidian release and move it to a subfolder App\Obsidian. After that, launching the app ObsidianPortable worked for me.
Thanks very much. I actually did it before, launched the updater.bat file, the updater downloaded latest version of Obsidian, then launch portable and it didn't work. But today I did it again and got it done. First I deleted all files under App\Obsidian then updater.bat. launch Obsidian portable after the downloading finished. Still don't know why, but it worked this time. Thank you again, guess I wouldn't do it again without your post.
@falltree I'm just gonna post it here too, since mine doesn't work using your guide. my terminal show me this:
~ cd "Root:\Dir1\ObsidianPortable"
Root:\Dir1\ObsidianPortable .\Updater.bat
Check Your Network Connection
Press any key to continue . . .
I'm using windows terminal with win-util pwsh profile. This must be some problem in the code, my internet works fine, I'm not using my VPN when I use the Updater.bat script. I'm gonna ping the dev, I hope he is okay being pinged: @Numstr Almost forgot to ask this, is there anyway to produce verbose error result? because currently that error result is very nondescript (vague, not verbose or strace level of enough) on what gone wrong. Other examples of error, or debugging tools, guides etc.: r/linux_gaming post on linux debugging guide. LogFox app for android debugging from keepass mobile port github issue convo.
Alright, this is why I want the dev to make multiple releases post for diff and archive purposes. Ladies and gentlemen, I got the backup of Updater.bat before the current update, it works fine. I'm posting it here as attachment and I'm going to post it too into my fork and my discussion repo, later: (I can't upload the .bat file directly. I upload it as .zip format (Github doesn't allow .7z , oh well). You could check it with virus total and use diff between this release and the current release, [I haven't got the time to back up the old release from this github release page to Wayback Machine or Online Archive])
edit: here's my archived latest working release, release in my fork: https://github.com/Adhjie/Obsidian-Portable/releases/tag/v1.0.0
@Adhjie You can easily roll back using the commit history. Here is this version. Updater.bat
Regarding this error, I need some checks. Can you do the following: download latest release Latest unzip it to a new folder, put all 4 files there, and then test several times in order. And it would be nice to show the output, as you did in the previous post
~ cd "Root:\Dir1\ObsidianPortable" Root:\Dir1\ObsidianPortable .\Updater.bat Check Your Network Connection Press any key to continue . . .
First: without network check section Updater-1.bat Second: with '-k' flag for curl Updater-2.bat Third: with default system curl (for win 10 and above) Updater-3.bat Fourth: without proxy section Updater-4.bat
