Bug? Samurai is starting with a short sword instead of wakizashi
Katana is named OK, the only issue with wakizashi.
Katana is a separate item. Wakizashi is just another name for short sword, not an actual unique item. Spl deleted all the Samurai name replacements for items "until a native speaker translates them all" because some of them don't make sense in Japanese (this mostly applies to "gunyoki" afaik, which makes no sense at all. There's another one which has been questioned before but iirc appears to just be extremely archaic vocab rather than entirely nonsensical like gunyoki, though I could be misremembering that). There is also a comment saying "it's unclear whether booze in-game is actually sake" as another reason to remove it, which seems weird to me (酒 can mean just "alcohol" in addition to the specific rice wine).
Anyway, not a bug but a deliberate choice by the maintainers.
Thanks for clarification @entrez !
I agree with cleaning-doubtful-terms-strategy -- but -- I think the famous pair of swords (katana+wakizashi) is quite an important cultural term for Japan's samurai culture, and so being straightforwardly consistent we should expect to see "single sided blade" instead of "katana" or we should expect "katana and wakizashi" both untouched.
I believe wakizashi is actually quite well-known for non-japanese people?
Seems I have no permissions to replace "bug" tag with "suggestion"😕
