Bug: Reading a scroll of cloning while confused does not clone the player.

Describe the bug When reading a blessed scroll of cloning while confused, the message "You clone yourself!" appears, but no clone is created.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce (1):

1. As a human convict with a blessed scroll of cloning and a potion of confusion.
2. In the context of wizard mode (I have not tried outside wizard mode) on dungeon level 1.
3. Do this: quaff the potion of confusion, then read the scroll of cloning
4. See error: message "You clone yourself!" appears, but no clone is created.

Playing locally on Manjaro Linux, usually a locally built SpliceHack executable. I have encountered this bug in both the 1.1.0 and 1.2.0 branches.

Additional context I can get around this bug by polymorphing into a gargoyle before doing the other steps. However this causes a seperate bug which I will report separately.
