AMDGPU: Weired performance/hanging problem (0.5fps on desktop) since nixos-unstable 1816249

I updated my system (nixos-unstable channel) today and now there is a massive problem with the amdgpu driver. When starting the system I've already noticed the plymouth boot screen (disabled it for now) was running with like 0.5 fps. Sddm on the other side felt normal. When logging into my plasma 6.4 wayland session it is the same as on plymouth boot screen. New frames come in like every two seconds. I thought I try to disable/enable kwins color managment and just change some display settings to see if it changes something. The display settings gave me a error about a missing kscreen backend. The x11 session is working without problem. It is not easy to track down because my last update was like 4 days ago. But I've looked into journalctl and try to show the problematic sections. Does someone have a idea how to provide a log which is more helpful. I think I need some help in general how to provide a bit more information and notify the right maintainers. I've decided to notify the mesa maintainers for now: @K900 @primeos @vcunat

I've tried the override workaround mentioned in that issue but it didn't solved my problem. I think I will try to downgrade mesa later that day.

I noticed the same problem on my computer (AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT) after the update to Linux Kernel 6.15.x. For now I reverted to use 6.14.x which makes the plymouth animation run smooth again. Hope, this helps someone.

Just a quick update: I ended up switching to the LTS kernel (6.12) as a temporary workaround since 6.14 is now EOL and 6.15 still has the laggy Plymouth animations. Still very interested in seeing this fixed in newer kernels, so I’m happy to help test or provide logs if needed.
