Hello Petr,

I would prioritize the Amazon Prime Video, after fixing the bug on Netflix which makes it difficult to select the "Translation Language". See my comment in that place.

Yesterday I showed via Skype your Easysubs and the LLN + LLY (language Learning with Netflix and Language learning with YouTube beta) extensions to my American friends. The LLN and LLY are two separate but very similar extensions made by one team My friends and me agreed that your Easysubs is by no means inferior. For example, we liked your simpler settings more. Also your features to pause and resume the video automatically as the cursor enters and respectively leaves the subs, and to navigate between the adjacent subs via the progress bar - are very good and genuine.

But LLN+LLY, unlike your extension, has hit more than a million of Chrome users. Why do you think is such huge difference in the usage? Where the project like yours can be steered to under the circumstances?

I have been thinking indeed about it yet before yesterday, but below is just my friends' reflections:

  1. The fact you need to install one extension for Netflix and YouTube is a win of your Easysub over LLN+LLY. And it would be only better if it supported also The Amazon Prime Video. (My friends are New Jersey subscribers to both Netflix and Amazon, but feel uncomfortable with installing extensions). Because of the Coronavirus, the people in the US and Canada have been increasingly subscribing to the Amazon Prime shipping service, which gives the Amazon Prime Video in the package.

  2. Easysubs can translate (at least according to its menu) to more languages than LLN+LLY. In particularly, my friends wanted to translate the English subtitles of the Netflix serial "Unorthodox" to Yiddish, as the speech was in Yiddish but the Yiddish subts were lacking. And only your extension could do that. Of course its a fringe use case, but...

Hi @Ilya-Lad, Thanks for your feedback. It is important for me that the extension helps people

About my plans

In the next update:

  1. Fix for choosing a language for netflix will be released.
  2. Coursera will be supported.
  3. Safari browser extension will be release.

After which I have plans to add support for Amazon Prime Video.

LLN+LLY

I know these extensions, at the beginning of development I was inspired by LLN. I used it even before the paid features were introduced. In one of the updates in LLN, my favorite functions broke and I decided to develop my own extension.

In developing this extension, I was guided by the following goals:

  1. The extension should work with many popular services. So that you can learn the language by watching any of your favorite TV series or shows (Then there was no LLY yet).
  2. The extension should integrate into services as natively as possible and not interfere with their use, even when not in use.
  3. The extension should be easy to use without having to configure it at the start.

Unfortunately, I am developing the extension alone and I am weak in marketing, so the extension is not popular and only spreads from hand to hand. I think this way, but I don't know how to promote it yet.
