Second instance does not load new toots

Description of the issue

I have two instances added. The first one will update toots as expected. If I switch to the second instance, I have to reload the tab to get new toots. It will not fetch new ones on its own.

How you found the issue

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Go to Settings > Instances
2. Click on the ⭐ for the second instance in the list.
3. Click on Home
4. See that toots are all old.
5. Scroll up and down, but no new toot indicator loads.
6. Reload browser tab.
7. The second instance reloads and new toots now show.
8. Scroll up and down again.
9. No new toot indicator loads.
10. Reload tab in browser.
11. New toots show.

What you expected to happen

The second instance I switch to should behave the same way as the first one and background fetch toots and offer me a button to show them.
