NFS trunking overview

Summary

Hi, would it be possible to detail the LIF failover behaviour when configuring NFS trunking as per this guide? The overview states 'It is a best practice that all LIFs in a trunking group are members of the same failover group' - but if all LIFs in a trunking group must be on the same node and part of a dedicated failover group, what happens in the case of node failure and takeover? We have tested this and as expected, the LIFs do not failover and the NFS datastore that is connected to the trunking group experiences an all paths down event. It needs clarifying why the LIFs in a trunking group need to be in a failover group, because it seems that this best practise should be ignored if you require high availability? Regards, Jon.

After extensive review by subject matter experts, it is determined that no change is required. You do not have to make the failover group use only ports on the same node.
