Hi, as a super newby into ROS, I want to add something about using this with ROS.

But also as a super noob in Github, I only come here to add something while thinking what I am doing is helpful for some other sobbing souls like me and not sure if appropriate. This project can be easily used with ROS as while. I tested in Ubuntu 16.04+ ROS kinetic+Kinect V2: some tips: 1.Use catkin branch of dso_ros will do, just use like this ;

git clone https://github.com/JakobEngel/dso_ros.git -b -catkin

during the catkin. 2. If you already done the dos_ros with the original dso, just delete dso_ros folders in the ROS workspace, and replace(rename or whatever) the original dso folder, redone the catkin process again, everything will be fine, at least for me. Thank your for your example @Neoplanetz. I am tring to output the results via sockets to Windows platform. This project should be helpful.
