[Improvement Request] Improvements to flow of the search bar in app drawer

Open Seltonu opened this issue 2 years ago • 1 comments

Description

Adding web search to the Neo search bar while having local search has a very awkward flow. When opening the app drawer the search bar is initially a local search bar, and I have to press enter twice to switch to a web search bar. Often times I'm trying to do a web search right away, and this flow deletes all text in the search bar so I have to type it twice.

It would also be very very handy to have a setting to automatically open the keyboard on opening the app drawer, as this is the primary way I find myself accessing apps. Having to reach to the top of my (tall) phone is cumbersome especially with one hand.

Expected Behavior

Typing a search in the Neo search bar should show local AND web searches together when both are enabled. They should not act as two completely separate search bars.

Keyboard should open automatically as app search is my default

Actual Behavior

Neo local search pops up first. Hitting enter twice closes the search bar and opens up a new web search bar, clearing all existing search text and requiring it to be retyped.

Keyboard does not open automatically and requires tapping the search bar

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Have search engine set to app search, enable web results.
  2. Swipe open app drawer
  3. Tap search bar, start typing some search text
  4. Hit enter to "search", nothing happens. Hit enter again, search bar closes and a new empty web search bar opens.

#197 would already help a lot. But having the option to automatically open keyboard is indeed a nice feature.
