Disable or modify drawer animations
I tend to turn off animations wherever possible on my phone, laptop, etc - I like things to be fast and crisp. I understand why people like them, but I don't - ain't got no time for that!
The drawer in Neo has really sluggish animations when switching between categories (I think it got slower after the rebranding from Omega). If you have more than three categories, it takes almost five seconds for the animation to settle. I would love to be able to turn it off or at least adjust the speed.
Best launcher ever, though! It legitimately has everything I need, but it's also basic enough (and can be locked down enough) that I use it for older adults. Great work!
Having animations when switching tabs in Neo Launcher is absolutely killing the app for me, so much so that I can't use it as is.. Having tabs (which I require) and then switching to the app I want takes forever. Im like @summersab, disable animations everywhere. I'd like to be able to do the same for Neo Launcher please!
Clicking on a tab and waiting multiple seconds to see the list of apps is abysmal ux and makes the tabs feature completely impractical. If there are going to be animations, they need to be a lot faster, like 100ms at most.
Also I agree that it's nice to be able to fully disable animations. I don't see the point of animations. All they do is slow down whatever action you're trying to accomplish. Ideally, this app would hook into the system settings and disable its animations if animations are disabled system wide. But if that's too complicated to support, I would add a toggle.
I'd like it to be in-app adjustable instead of following system defaults - more flexibility.

That's a good point. Individual customization has the meaningful advantage of maximum flexibility. Sane defaults and maintainability are also important. It can be hard to balance all of these things.
Assuming unlimited development resources, the ideal from a user perspective might be something like this:
- Three options within the app settings for animations:
on,off, andfollow system, wherefollow systemadapts to whether animations are enabled in the system at any given time. - The default selection for a fresh installation is
follow system. - A slider or selector of some kind in app settings that allows users to configure the speed of the animations, and only applies when animations are enabled.
That said, it may require too much development effort to achieve this entire feature set.
As much as I love being able to customize software, I prefer if software comes already working the way I want, so it doesn't require me to spend time individually customizing every app. If the animation speed is made consistent with the rest of the system animations, I believe it would satisfy almost everyone to follow the system setting. But if animations remain as slow as they are now, they really need an explicit off button in the app settings.
The top priority is just getting any kind of fix out the door. This is not commercial software, so it can be hard to find the resources to implement any improvements at all. So I would be very happy to see any of these things. I believe that we should work towards whichever one is easiest to implement and get it deployed, then we can think about prioritizing whatever remains.
Which is easiest to implement and maintain?
- Speed up the animation by at least a factor of 10.
- Put a toggle in settings to disable the animation.
- Conform to the system animation setting.
