There seem to be a new mwlwifi version

Open eriknuds opened this issue 9 years ago • 11 comments

There seem to be a new mwlwifi version, but no new binaries...? Version 10.3.0.18-20160823-1... I'm asking because I experience some 5 GHz stability issues with the current binary version.

Unfortunately since that version, It's impossible to compile with a stable version of OpenWrt (which is 15.05.1). So this project is pointless right now. :<

I see, thanks for the info. Will you take up the project again when the next stable openwrt is released?

Yes. I guess.

What makes compilation impossible?

danielkza avatar Sep 21 '16 17:09 danielkza

@danielkza

10.3.0.17-20160601 had been modified to be built with latest backports package "compat-wireless-2016-01-10" without patches.

I see. Thanks!

I do also have problems with the 5 GHz, it crashes after a little usage. So is there a way to change back to the standard openwrt luci 15.05.1 driver ?

nvanggaard avatar Oct 08 '16 07:10 nvanggaard

@nvanggaard You can get a newer driver version by using OpenWRT trunk or LEDE. The latter has worked well for me, no more drops. If you can't upgrade and must stay with 15.05.1, you can grab the original mwlwifi package from here and install it using the --force-downgrade option.

danielkza avatar Oct 08 '16 20:10 danielkza

@danielkza Thanks! I've managed to downgrade, but the performance is just not the same...

Do you know if it is possible to compile the driver used en OpenWRT trunk or LEDE and just use the newer driver with the stable LuCI 15.05.1 version ?

nvanggaard avatar Oct 19 '16 15:10 nvanggaard

@nvanggaard you might already know about this, but you can use kaloz's build here: https://downloads.openwrt.org/people/kaloz/

I've found it hard to find much documentation on this, but it seems like the preferred OpenWrt branch for these routers. It's mentioned in the wiki as a stable OpenWrt branch (https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/linksys/wrt1x00ac_series#stable1).

As far as I can tell, it's based on 15.05.1 with minimal changes to include the latest mwlwifi version. I've been running for 4 days now with positive results.

I seem to have issues on my AC1900 when trying to upgrade

Is there something obvious that I'm missing? I'm definately on Chaos Calmer.
