installation renders windows unbootable

following installation procedure for this driver on a fresh install of windows 3.11 (winver reports it as windows "3.10E"?) causes windows to throw an "error loading gdi.exe"

attempted in vmware workstation 16.2.1

Hmmm, I can't reproduce this with straight 3.1 nor with WfW 3.11. I'll try loading up straight 3.11 and see what happens.

Is this just ephemeral, or does it happen consistently?

seems pretty consistent. i've reset the vm i'm attempting this in to a fresh install snapshot a good three times and then attempted to install the driver only for it to break gdi.exe all of those times.

I can't reproduce this with 3.11; however, winver reports 3.10 (what specific version are you using?), and I get an "interesting" "error" (continue works fine):

(Gist of weird disk error)
