MySQL Dependency

Core Drupal works fine on PostgreSQL, so can the system operate entirely on PostgreSQL, or is there another contributed module that requires MySQL? We use PostgreSQL for many things, but have no in-house MySQL expertise, so I'd like to see is the system could be modified to operate in a purely PostgreSQL environment.
