[Runtime Bug]: Transformer RR Issue Compilation (truthful_shrimp)
Describe the bug
This thread compiles all of the issues I've found with the truthful_shrimp RR Preset.
There are 4 main issues noted in this thread.
- Checkerboard patterns on quick transitions
- Specular issues
- Flickering issues
- Smearing
The checkerboard pattern is present in all games in this thread.

To reproduce, start a new game, and just... blow up some cars. Crash them into each other. Observe the pattern as the bright emissive fades.
As you can see, there is a notable checkerboard pattern as the emissive from the fire fades away. This project is extremely stable.
Garry's Mod, another very stable project. This project uses HDRI sky replacements. To reproduce, you'll want to install the 64 bit version of Garry's Mod RTX from the link above. Then install the skybox mod here. Simply load a map, press Q to open the menu, go to the second tab at the top, and spawn in the HDRI Cube entity. Then in-game hold C, right click on the cube, and change the skybox.

This is the only case where transformer RR exaggerates an existing issue, rather than introducing it entirely by itself.
To reproduce, install Remix as explained above, start a new game and press ~. Then use this command to load into the area: coc StripMA. Walk around and observe the issue. It is very important that you're using the rtx.conf file provided in the installation instructions.

Note 3/8/25: The sky smearing sample occurs with CNN RR as well, but not DLSS SR. This is a widespread RR issue, not exclusive to truthful_shrimp.
To reproduce, install remix as explained above, then start a new game and walk around, look at the skybox & moon.
How do you reproduce the bug?
Toggle Transformer RR in each game and observe the issues
What is the expected behavior?
Transformer RR should not have these issues. In all cases except for one (the ground in Fallout New Vegas), the issue is present only with Transformer RR.
My suggestion is to either change to truthful_shrimp as the default, or allow users to switch presets manually in the Remix overlay.

This is present using the transformer "diamond_wallaby" preset? or is just by using truthfull_shrimp?
@Duranntl I never ran into any of these issues with truthful_shrimp, but I'm unable to test to verify as I cannot force the other preset

I have been able to confirm that majority of the issues mentioned above in truthful_shrimp are not present in diamond_wallaby.
The only widespread issue I've found with diamond_wallaby is an odd issue with accumulation, where failing to move the camera for an extended duration will lead to various different artifacts. However, simply moving the camera a small amount fixes this issue, and it goes unnoticed 98% of the time.
Having shared comparisons on Discord, every person I showed them to preferred diamond_wallaby. Additionally, every person who tested it themselves using the override to enable it also preferred diamond_wallaby.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas: Status: Completely fixed
The checkerboard patterns are gone.
Garry's Mod Status: Mostly fixed
Note: There is a minor issue with accumulation when changing the sky, but moving the camera clears it. Additionally some boiling with sky lighting in certain circumstances, however the user who pointed this out still prefers diamond_wallaby.
Fallout New Vegas Status: Completely fixed
diamond_wallaby cleans up all of the artifacts introduced by truthful_shrimp, in addition to enhancing geometry reconstruction (at the cost of some distant texture detail)
Barnyard Status: Mostly fixed
diamond_wallaby fixed the checkerboard pattern issues showcased from truthful_shrimp, however sky smearing remains. This issue also persists with CNN RR, but not plain DLSS SR
So for now we better stick/force to use diamond_wallaby only. Il be forcing remix titles to use preset D trought NPI like showed on discord channel
After messing with it further I discovered the issue in the Delta Force screenshots above seems to be related to NRC, the same results are present on diamond_wallaby. I did notice some artifacts in SWAT 4 using truthful_shrimp however and will submit those once I get around to testing everything

Hi @Kim2091 - thanks for the very thorough info, it helps a lot! We're investigating this internally as REMIX-4157.
DLSS version 310.4.x resolved some issues of truthful_shrimp's. The issues with the ground in Fallout New Vegas have been resolved, along with some of the smearing in other games.
However, the checkerboard issue is still present.
