Rendering close to mesh: misplaced geometry

Open lippoldt opened this issue 9 months ago • 2 comments

Hi,

we are testing kaolin for rendering on a city mesh. Rendering seems to be fine, except for the case when we place the camera close to the mesh, like between buildings from a street level perspective. Then there is additional geometry appearing at the top of the image (inverted), that originates not from that specific view. We can avoid this by zooming out and slicing the meshes, however would love to understand whether from your side there are any limitations on camera placement or whether this requires different input criteria.

Here is an example.

Image source drone imagery courtesy of Wingtra AG

The left side shows some zoomed out building. The right side shows a close up of the same geometry, with slightly different camera pose and direction and much closer to the object. There we can see geometry popping up upside down. If it was an error in the underlying geometry, it should also show in the left image. Both images were produced using the same rendering and camera code, the only difference being the distance to the object and the exact camera position.

Thanks, Franziska.

Hi @lippoldt , we have never seen that, do you have some code / scene to share with us? You can send to [email protected] if you don't want to share widely

Stale issue, please reopen if still relevant
