[REQ] Add a utility function to only generate specific kernel input adjoint definitions

Description

It would be useful to be able to generate adjoint kernels that only compute adjoints for a subset of input variables. It would help the user assess the relative cost of each adjoint, and save on performance if only that subset of adjoints is needed.
