Looking over the Hardware section in https://nshipster.com/contact-tracing/. I can't help but feel that some context as to why this won't work today without Apple involvement might be enlightening. In other words clarifying that while one might theorize a Core Bluetooth solution, Core Bluetooth actually wouldn't allow certain things (at least according to documentation). For example you suggest use of CBAdvertisementDataServiceDataKey but that isn't a supported key for advertising per documentation. There are other limits as well to Core Bluetooth that also make Apple-less implementation difficult. Granted you alluded to this under the header “Only Apple (and Google) can do this.”

Thanks for the thoughts on the framework. I'm eagerly awaiting it to see it in action and also hoping that Apple makes it available on older os versions as this would be best as universally adopted as possible.

I'm also curious to go poke around and see if Core Bluetooth might support more than it lets on seeing the other retrieval keys that I hadn't looked at previously.
