SAO Utils causes lag in games when you move the mouse.

Having SAO UTILS 2: Progressive, causes games such as League of Legends, Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris; to lower in FPS by over 50% when I move the mouse erratically across the screen.

League of Legends: From 260 FPS --> 90 FPS when moving mouse Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris: From 180 FPS --> 40 FPS

Unsure whether if it is a problem on my end or a different problem entirely; but closing this app stops my games from lagging while i move with my mouse. The effect also the same as or similar to when I have Overwolf: Outplayed running, which doesnt impact FPS as much as SAO UTILS 2.

Hi, could you provide some more details?

  • What's you computer configuration? (PC or laptop?) Is it SAO Utils 2 running on a integrated GPU?
  • Do you have mouse gesture enabled? Does it increase the framerate if you disable it?
  • What kind of widgets do you place on the desktop? Does it increase the framerate if you hide them all?

Sorry for late reply:

It was SAO UTILS 2 PROGRESSIVE, And about 4-6 heavily configured CUSTOM HUD widgets across 2 monitors, 60hz and 165hz.

PC: Cpu: Amd R9 5900X Gpu: Amd RX 7800XT

I dont have integrated graphics.

I dont use mouse gestures. Just whenever I move my mouse anywhere it lags. Perhaps the HUD mouse detection or Parralax has something to do with that?

When i remove the widgets one by one, it progressively (Lol) increases my FPS to expected numbers.

What about the widget frames? Are they "Always Hide" or "Auto Hide" ? And please also provide the report via Preferences - About - Bug Report... - Generate Report

All widget frames are set to always hide once im done configuring them.

I have since switched to linux (dual booting with windows) which this software cannot run natively on the linux platform (without proton and black background).

Would you like me to quickly boot up windows and generate the report?

Sure, the generated reports will be identical as long as the configuration is the same.

I have booted Windows 11 24H2 (pretty much a clean reinstall from Windows 10) My Desktop with HUD Custom Widgets + Wallpaper Engine: Image

and here is the generated report: Generated_report-17_05_2025.txt

Clarification: This is only apparent when im playing a game such as mentioned in the beginning of this thread.

Completely no idea how a widget can affect FPS only when moving the mouse...😥 Does hiding the widget (rather than removing it) help increase the FPS?

GPBeta avatar May 17 '25 12:05 GPBeta

I have not tried but i imagine that it's only visual and it's still there behind the scenes still running.

There also a switch called 'Rectangular Interactive Area' in the HUD Custom Widget's settings which may have impact on performance. What is the current status of this switch on your widgets? Does it make any differences when you turn it on or off?

I wanted to offer my 2 cents and it MIGHT not be a SAO Utils problem if the issue is primarily on Windows. Are you using the AMD Adrenaline complete or minimal drivers (not Drivers only mode)? If so, double check to see if SAO Utils is considered actively running as a profile. You'll want to remove it from your global games list and restart SAO Utils.
