Research: Badges/Achievements

Open ori-near opened this issue 1 year ago • 2 comments

Objective

To develop and implement an MVP of badges/achievements for DevHub by Q4, aligning with DevHub's long-term developer engagement goal.

Background

Developers are the most crucial part of DevHub, and their engagement is essential for building a thriving ecosystem. Gamification, through the introduction of badges, is a key component of this.

Scope

The MVP should encompass the following aspects:

  1. Identify and design 10-15 badges that are relevant to developers (e.g. writing code, participating in hackathon, etc). Collaborate with each DevHub core leader to identify potential badges. Work with DevHub designer (Sasha) or community. Consider running an engagement campaign too.
  2. Introduce a dedicated section on user profiles to display earned badges.
  3. Establish a mechanism for awarding badges (manual/automatic?)
  4. Establish a mechanism for evaluating success/metrics of these badges
  5. Define a process for the community to request or suggest new badges
  6. Explore giving DevHub communities the ability to introduce their own badges (maybe for future

Success Metrics

[Need to define what successful engagement looks like at launch and how we'll monitor over time]

Additional Considerations

  • Research examples from other developer focused badges
  • Ensure that badges are challenging yet achievable ... and provide developers with a sense of accomplishment/bragging rights
  • Consider various motivations (e.g. certainty, autonomy, meaning, profess, social inclusion)
