  • we have this link from our CAS colleagues to the China Meteorological Data Service Center (CMDC)
  • here we find "Dataset Of Daily Surface Observation Values In Individual Years (1981-2010) In China"
  • retrieving data requires an access code
  • [x] Bruce work with CAS colleagues to get help in acquiring the data

This website from CMA provides all the meteorological data in China, especially the weather data like precipitation, temperature, wind, etc. recorded by the local surface stations. There are also more daily data after 2010 till now, like the link: http://data.cma.cn/en/?r=data/detail&dataCode=SURF_CLI_CHN_MUL_DAY_CES_V3.0

But there are a few problems for foreign scientists to use them:

  1. the access -- I'm afraid the ordinary registration users could not download them.
  2. the lack of some certain stations -- I just checked the station list in the English version website, and noticed that the stations are much fewer than sites of Chinese version ( especially no stations in Tibet...)
  3. the instruction documents of the datasets are written in Chinese.

That might be a problem for you to do research without some help from China, I think...

Thanks @ZhixingRuan this is very helpful. I will see if we can make some progress on this and will keep you updated.

@lsetiawan: see Slack #ground_data for conversation on how we can distribute the data.
