We've created a best practice solution for automatically checking for git commits locally for passwords prior to pushing commits to a public repository: https://nasa-ammos.github.io/slim/continuous-integration/starter-kits/#git-secrets. There's a number of projects interested in utilizing these templates, so this ticket tracks that infusion need.
