Choice of "Network ETH"
Is there any explanation anywhere of what effect the choice of "Network ETH" in the drop down box on the top left of the screen (ie myetherapi.com, myetherapi.com etc) has? Is there any reason for choosing anything other than the default? Is there any way of knowing which is better (more available or faster) at any given time?
I made a transaction using several times more gas than even "fastest" recommendation on https://ethgasstation.info/calculatorTxV.php, but still after several hours there's no sign of it in my account on etherscan.io. This although myetehrwallet confirmed that it had been sent and gave me a transaction id.
I'm wondering if the choice of "Network ETH" could be playing a role here.
I did sign the transaction offline using a download of myetherwallet that's about 6 weeks old, but this should still work fine right? (It did until yesterday at least).
The help available at https://myetherwallet.github.io/knowledge-base/ is excellent in general. Maybe you could add answers to questions about the choice of "Network ETH".
Thanks in Advance
Seems this was something to do with my using a downloaded copy of myetherwallet that was a few weeks old. I tried the current version (and the new default choice of node), and the transaction succeeded. It also seemed to pull the transactions that had "vanished" back from nirvana, as they then suddenly appeared in my account on etherscan.io too.
Its unfortunate if the wallet "suddenly" doesnt work like this without warning. At least clear documentation about how/when this can happen (available nodes changes?) would help a lot. Thanks
They are different end points, maintained by different people on different infrastructure. At any point some may be offline, experiecing high latency, or other issues. if your balances aren't loading, you can try another node to see if it works better. If you are not experiencing issues, there is no reason to switch it though.
Its to help make things more decentralized and avoid the issues we see with the DAO where the infrastructure for the site back then is only sometimes online, which creates issues.
They are different end points
but of the same public ethereum blockchain, right?
on different infrastructure
which is actually an implementation detail

Yes, and thats why it would be very helpful to be able to see before one picks a node (or leaves the default) and sends it a transaction if the node in question is offline, experiencing problems etc. Is there any way?

which DAO?
MyEterwallet should be usable and clear even for non technical people. This aspect is not.
You also did not explain the phenomenon I described above (at least in a way I can understand). It would be nice if you would try.
Thanks in Advance.
