Decimal Places on Tokens

Open gitschwifty opened this issue 7 years ago • 2 comments

I've noticed that on several tokens in my etherwallet, it will show as having one power of ten more than actually there (e.g. have 10,000, shows 1,000,000 tokens). This got me super excited for a couple of minutes, then checked etherscan, etc. and was disappointed despite never having bought such a large amount. Not sure what could cause this, tried to check javascript but couldn't figure it out.

@gitschwifty, do you have an example?

My friend had some tau where it showed one power of ten more, but when checked when etherscan and when he tried to transfer it all after I told him the wallet was probably messed up, it was the actual amount that he had. Figured there was a missing decimal before the last zero, or something similar. Uses a trezor if that might be part of the issue. Could get screengrabs if he's okay with it, but unsure if he will be, I reported this because I calmed him down and had him check etherscan etc. and was unhappy that such a thing might happen on a widely used ether wallet website.
