Feature Request: Clarify Attack Logic (AND vs OR) in Monster Statblocks
Devs, hello!
While running a first session of Shadowdark, I've noticed a small but annoying book-keeping issue that stems from the way monster statblocks in Shadowdark use AND and OR to indicate multiple attacks per turn. For example:
1 beak +3 (1d8) AND 1 tentacle +3 (1d6 + grab) or 1 charm
Which means some attacks can be combined in a single turn, while others are used exclusively.
Currently, the system doesn’t provide a clear, visual way to differentiate between attacks used together (multiattack) and attacks that are mutually exclusive. This makes it cumbersome to quickly determine which attacks to roll in combat without referring back to the PDF.
Feature Suggestion:
Add visual indicators or grouping to the monster’s Attacks section to help clearly distinguish between attacks used simultaneously (multiattack) and those used alternatively.
For example, allow tagging attacks with “AND”/“OR” logic or grouping attacks into colour-coded Attack Patterns like it is done in Old-School Essentials system, so users can see at a glance how attacks combine.
This feature would improve usability and speed during combat, reducing the need to constantly consult the rulebook.
Thanks for considering!
Thanks for the suggestion. The add/or logic is added into the description field of the monsters, so no need to go outside foundry to reference this, but I agree, this could work way better. I'll queue it up as a future improvement.
