[Improvement] Automatically submit updates to WinGet Community Repo

Open gunnaraas opened this issue 4 months ago • 0 comments

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Currently, a XrmToolBox user is required to manually submit a PR to microsoft/winget-pkgs after an update is released for the latest update to be reflected in the Windows Package Manager Community Repository.

This manual process results in a delay where users who install and update using WinGet may be on old versions, opening potential security issues.

For example, currently the latest version available in WinGet is outdated, 1.2024.9.69 (latest is 1.2025.7.71), and we are waiting on approval of my PR for this to be updated - despite the latest update being released 3 weeks ago.

❯❯ winget search xrmtoolbox

Describe the solution you'd like Configure WinGet Releaser or Action with similar functionality, resulting in GitHub Actions automatically notifying the WinGet team of XrmToolBox updates as they are released -- minimizing delays.

I'm more than happy to submit a pull request enabling this for the devs.

Describe alternatives you've considered

  • XrmToolBox devs begin manually doing this with tools like komac as part of their update release process.
  • Nothing changes. Continue to rely on users to notice a difference between the latest version and what is available in WinGet, they use komac to add this update to the WinGet Community Repo independently.
