Gate Shaking Visual
This is just a small visual suggestion. when using something like open computers, or basically anything other than the DHD to dial the gate, the ground needs to shake... like violently, least until the connection is made. This wouldn't damage things, it's just visual. In the movie and show, it's stated to shake when the fifth symbol locks. The shaking can be less violent further away. but still 'felt'... say 100 blocks away? This can be done by just making the camera shake, maybe play a low rumbling sound at the same time? Of course you need to have a way to stop that as well. in the show they used 'frequency dampeners" but putting another item in is not necessary. So, I'm thinking when you get ramps put in, have them be the reason to stop the shaking.
I like this idea partially... Perhaps instead of just simply having it occur always there could be another way to power the gate using clamps at the 10 and 2 position and by then they could be upgraded with the "dampers"
