Sprinting not working - MacOS / Nintendo Pro Controller

Hi There. Sorry if this is just me being stupid but it seems that I am unable to sprint while playing. I have confirmed that the left stick input is reading correctly (i swapped some keybinds), and that toggle sprint is enabled; my character automatically sprints when i press w on a keyboard but not when I hold the stick.
