legal?

Thanks for making available this wonderful tool!

Just a short question: is retrieving tweets by using this tool legal when using it for academic purposes? Somewhere in the developer terms I read:

"If you provide Twitter Content ... you will only distribute or allow download of Tweet IDs, Direct Message IDs, and/or User IDs. ... You may not do any of the following while accessing or using the Services: (iii) access or search or attempt to access or search the Services by any means (automated or otherwise) other than through our currently available, published interfaces that are provided by Twitter (and only pursuant to the applicable terms and conditions), unless you have been specifically allowed to do so in a separate agreement with Twitter (NOTE: crawling the Services is permissible if done in accordance with the provisions of the robots.txt file, however, scraping the Services without the prior consent of Twitter is expressly prohibited);"

According to the Twitter Automation rules (https://help.twitter.com/en/rules-and-policies/twitter-automation), making tools that automatically use the twitter API is allowed; also, one of the main ideas of the usage of the Application programming interface, is to automate long and tiring processes.

I have seen this tool used in academic papers, such as this one https://drive.google.com/file/d/1we5kywWQqQRYX0Hy8edsKKN7PdaaFuzY/view (it is in Spanish)

However, I would recommend you to read the Automation rules on Twitter's General guidelines and policies. Maybe ask the question on https://twittercommunity.com/c/dev-rules-and-policies/rules-and-policies to make sure you do not get in trouble because it depends if Twitter finds this legal or not because it is not directly bypassing a specific ban, instead just repeating a long process and taking advantage of a feature on the API.

Thank you so much for your response and answer!

We tried to get an enterprise account from Twitter, but they did not respond on our request, so we found GetOldTweets3 being a wonderful solution. Thanks for making the tool available.

Best regards,

Why can't this tool make use of robots.txt or can anyone confirm if it does use it already?
