`ripple` does nothing (no mouse following, no raindrops)

After https://github.com/jtsiomb/xlivebg/issues/16 has been fixed, I cannot see the `ripple` effect doing anything—neither following the mouse nor raindrops. Tried with several different JPG and PNG images. Running on EndeavourOS (Arch-based)...
