Do you also want non-e-ink devices here? Just in case, here is the `test.log` for a **Tolino Tab 8"** (Android 4.4.4, TFT 1200x1920 display). KOReader 2022.01 works on this device....
I was happy to find that Thorium actually supports EPUB3 with (audio) media overlays—hooray! I’d go with @ways2read’s suggestion of having a "use book audio when available" check button.
No voice (and no selction apart from "Voice: system default) on Linux Mint 20.3. Tried with 1.8.0 and 2.0.0-alpha.1.1846759180 (AppImage). I have "the usual suspects" installed: espeak, spd and PicoTTS....

Same problem here (without apparent error messages in logs), running Rolling Release #46b71d7 (2023-02-16 4:28) • Docker • PHP 8.2 on local Ubuntu 22.04 LTS server: Doesn't play remote streams...
I’ve never seen that between Linux systems (mostly because almost all use UTF-8 nowadays) but between Windows and Linux, due to Windows’ odd encodings—they seem to use UTF-16 with NTFS...
I like @Vaalyn’s wording. Should be self-explanatory. Personally, I use NFS mounts in AzuraCast’s (in-house) host to access the central music and backup storage, but since we don’t have that...
