Unable to access console with F4 key

Open ryu777mtg opened this issue 4 years ago • 4 comments

Using a USB with Ventoy to pass the retropie.preseed file to a Ubuntu Legacy Server 20.04 iso for automated install. Only changes to the preseed was to include the Wireless credentials and to enforce the partition on /dev/sda which in my opinion nulls out the attempt to install on USB

After the auto install it creates the retropie_setup_ubuntu.sh and adds the chmod+x when attempting to run script nothing happens so I just use wget to get this repo and run the bootstrap.sh

Everything goes smoothly then when trying to access console by hitting the F4 key just a black screen not sure if this is intended but I have no way of accessing the console. Maybe at the black screen there is something else I need to press but I don't even have a cursor. Was thinking it might be accessible by switching screens or something maybe something in documentation would be nice.

Thanks for your time

I have the same issue and have tried disabling the things in .bash_profile, but I still can't get a normal console with F4. I haven't got to bold out of fear of breaking something, but it is necessary to be able to drop in an out - especially to restart emulationstation. I also wasn't able to access the Dolphin configuration menus because of this issue.

I know its a little late, but i have the same problem with not being able to get to a console prompt. I created a script for dolphin-emu, and dropped it into the retropiemenu folder, and it is launchable from the options menu

i'd still like to not go to a black hole, but i'm sure i'll find something.

Not sure if you've all got this figured out, but for anyone else who may be wondering. F4 will get you into the OpenBox "desktop" window, from there if you right click you'll be given a list of options. The top option is the terminal emulator.

I ran into the same issue as well so to exit emulationstation to a console I press F4 to exit to the blank screen. And then I press CTRL+ALT+F3 to get to the login screen. There I can login and continue using the console as normal.

And if you also have issues with the keyboard not working in emulationstation I ran this to get it working sudo usermod -a -G input pi
