Built-in packs and diminishing original textures

Introduction

Concerns about the original resources

There might be some problems or concerns about using the original textures because of the doubtful license and consent, so some usages might be limited, for example on the Wiki. Therefore, at this point I suggest moving the textures from vanilla to classic or using another built-in pack to cover the resource usages optionally. Whatever how it should be, moving to another built-in pack could greatly reduce legislative concerns for resources.

Plans to have different built-in packs for favours

By default, the vanilla resources are always enabled, and it would be the fixed resources, but somehow can be overwritten by other packs. Then, as there are some modifications and improvements to the textures, the classic texture pack appears to conserve the old original textures of Minicraft+ before the texture update (since 2.2.0-dev2). However, the pack is not yet built-in but there are plans to be included in the game. Furthermore, to meet the favours of fancy textures and maintain the game in progress, I suggest working on a new built-in pack. There might be another built-in pack aimed to cover the original texture usages without overhauls.

Built-in pack plan details

Resource packs:

  • Vanilla (default)
    • The default resources of the game, cannot be disabled in general and can only be overwritten.
    • Kept for tones and styles as from the original textures, but improved for qualities and brushwork of the textures if needed.
  • Classic (built-in pack)
    • The classic resources of the game, the original asset creations for Minicraft+.
    • Always kept as is, unless for resource structure changes.
  • Improved (built-in pack)*
    • The improved textures of the game, upgraded from the vanilla resources, but with the similar tones and styles.
    • Upgraded along the game.
  • Modern (built-in pack)
    • The built-in modern textures of the game, with different feelings and experience from the original resources.
    • Handled and drawn by visual artists, with improved styles, qualities, brushworks and tones in consensus.

Mostly, the textures are related for different pack selections. The default resource always go to the bottom in term of priority.

For the improved pack, there are several ways to handle this. As the main goal of this pack is to have different textures from the original ones, it can either be merged into vanilla and some of the vanilla textures (original) to be kept in the classic pack, or separated as a built-in pack as in the list above, with the vanilla (default) textures away from overhauls. The resource rework includes all the sprites, fonts, skins, etc. And the original skins might be removed from the game.

Among the built-in packs, only the classic would include resources other than textures, and they are the audio clips, which may be removed from the vanilla resources depending on the way to handle the improved textures. New audio clips would be made into the vanilla resource groups.

Conclusion

This should be handled seriously as there can be several benefits as well as drawbacks from working on this. Of course, it is possible that not all the people would agree with the way to handle the original textures, so a hosted vote on this is necessary. However, maintenance on the works should still be conducted to keep its quality and improve its grades and essences. For the modern pack, a visual artist would be needed for the game. The potential should not be limited and the project should be ongoing, so as with its resources.
