[Base Minerals] No Silicon Ore / Phosphorus for Fertilizer (Forestry)?

Open D3nnis3n opened this issue 8 years ago • 6 comments

Hey, i just downloaded Base Minerals.

  1. Why is there no Silicon ore? As far is i know Silicon in english does not mean what we in Germany understand when saying "Silicon" (a paste you use in your bath so that water cannot flow anywhere it shouldn't), but it means "Silicium", which is an element (Si-14). It seems odd to need to craft it, when it is an element you can find in the earth an mine? As of now getting it seems to easy for me. It is needed in many recipes in my modpack and just being able to craft it instead of mining it seems off.

  2. You could consider to add Phosphorus as Oredicted to Forestrys Fertilizer? Apatite is one of the main resources to get phosphorus for fertilizers out of it, so Phosphorus seems to be pretty good to be oredicted to gemApatite or the fertilizer directly, but i think it would make a good Apatite oredict, as Apatite Needs to converted directly to fertilizer in forestry, there is no step in between to make it to phosphorus, so i think both are the same. Well, at least i would like to use it directly as replacement for Apatite. It's also the only Mineral that has no use yet.

  1. There is no silicon ore - Sand (andything oredicted as Sand) and either charcoal dust or coal dust - in a shapeless gives a "silicon blend" which can be tossed in a furnace to get silicon. (and yes, Si - element 14 - is "Silicon" in english)

  2. This is going to get brought up now - good idea!

For 1: This seems a bit to reasy to get to Silicon, which is an high end material in some tech mods. Is there a reason why you craft it? I know it is being crafted but that seems odd to me, as it is an element and - in my opinion - should be mineable. (E.g. it would only spawn 8x per Chunk in my pack - you see the Balance Problem?)

A lot of the reason is that the silicon recipe came via *Advantage and the recipe went in as was, recipes can be changed however with things like crafttweaker, and for actual usage in a live fire situation it's wholy reccomended to do so.

Yeh, will do that as soon as Crafttweaker is compatible with Malisis again g

In reality, quartz is functionally the closest thing to a "silicon ore" being the primary source of silicon for electronic components and such.

So rather than having a "silicon ore" mined and smelted akin to a metal ore, it makes more sense to have overworld sources of quartz/nether quartz, of which sand is already an example.

There shouldn't be a silicon ore at all.
