This is almost certinaly running with Docker for Mac with the defaults for CPU/RAM which are not adequate. Allocate some more resources to Docker (recommended is 8 cores 16 GB of RAM) and this should resolve it.

Ah thank you! But how can I join the blockchain with a less powerful device? I thought it was lightweight.

It really depends on the purpose of joining the network. Can you please tell us if you still need more details in case if official documentation is not enough?
