Difference between Gen 1 vs Gen 2 is never explained?
Why is it that MS documentation never explain the difference between Generation 1 vs Generation 2 VPN Gateway SKU's?
When you configure it you get the option to select Gen1 vs Gen2. But nowhere in any MS document does it explain why we should prefer one Gen1 over the other.
Now it seems somewhat obvious Gen 2 is newer and use that. If Gen 1 is older and legacy, why does it still exist after 5 years? Is there a reason and a time to select Gen1?

@D-Moonesinghe thanks for your feedback. We shall review it and get back to you soon
@D-Moonesinghe You are correct.
Generation 2 VPN Gateways are newer versions and offer additional features as compared to their Generation 1 counterparts.
For example, Throughput observed per tunnel, Packets per second per tunnel observed, No. of P2S and S2S Connections. You should choose the SKU and Generation that best fits your scenario and requirement.
Currently, there is no announcement for deprecating Generation 1. You can keep a watch on Microsoft Azure Blog for such updates.
