"Default File Format" dialog box

How do I know what my default file formats/extensions are? Am I selecting .docx/.xlsx/.pptx as my default formats or not? Nowhere in that dialog box does it say... even if you click the "learn more" link(s), there's no indication of what your default file extension(s) will be until after the installation is finished and you've actually launched each application to find out.
