Future development
@MichaelVL thank you for converting this to open source! I notice that the last Google Play update was in 2014. Do you still intend to actively develop this project, or are you planning on having it fully run other contributors?
Indeed it is good news that the sourcecode was puplished in July 2018 now! Thanks!!
When Michael has not enough time to be active in recent development of osm-focus, maybe there can evolve some ideas or pull request from other developers related to f-droid.org ?
Is it possible to try a first attemp whether the recent sourcecode is usable in the f-droid build process?
From other OSM related android apps I assume that devs like @Izzy or @Bubu or @rugk could be ask for a first evaluation of the source code?
@stephan75 Can you open an issue in the requests for packaging issue tracker over here: https://gitlab.com/fdroid/rfp
Done: see https://gitlab.com/fdroid/rfp/issues/685
But I am not familiar with the f-droid procedures, and have not been in contact with gitlab.com at all so far. So please don't blame me if something is wrong there, will try to improve my contributions.
@stephan75 I filled some gaps in your RFP. Not being an Android dev, I unfortunately could not figure the versionCode (no Manifest nor gradle found in the repo), so I had to leave the Build and Version part out. Guess @Bubu might be able to fill that gap
This seems to be indeed missing the build files. We can't build it as is. It;s probably easy to fix but this needs to happen here at this repo. Or someone needs to fork it and fix it there.
That said, not sure what else might be missing.
Hi I added the manifest file and some resource files.
Thanks, @MichaelVL – I've updated the issue on our end and asked a dev to take another look (@Bubu as you've checked already before, maybe you want to peek as well? I've asked relan as he commented there before).
There is some progress about the sourcecode base situation in the German speaking OSM sub forum:
https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=63337 (sorry for German language onlyt here)
Some considerations by Simon Poole (developer of Vespucci OSM editor), and another one has already forked the code and did some major changes.
Can this be helpful for you, other developers?
