Hotkey Preferences allows setting hotkeys that won't work

I would like to use the space bar to record split times, but after setting that hotkey in preferences, it doesn't work. Either you should be allowed to use the space bar, or preferences shouldn't allow you to set keys that wouldn't work. (Hopefully the former.)
