how can i install it from source on any Linux distro

Sorry to say, that I'm on the same road: Can't build, as the configure script is not provided. 'Make' is doing ok, but 'make install' fails.

Just give executable rights to the resulting pgn-extract (chmod +x pgn-extract) and move it to ~/.loacal/bin/
