What are the prerequisites for creating new travel step?

DejaVue keeps creating new travel steps in weird moments like in middle of transition (so I have like 3 steps with just next animation frames) , in middle of nowhere (or I just dont see the changes) or even in middle of selecting a text block (You can even see the selection box on half of the text).

Is this prone to some improvements or it was intended to work this way? And can we know what is the meaning of green/gray globules on graph?
