Describe the feature

In the latest snapshot, Minecraft made some insane changes to how ItemStacks work, and a lot of insane changes to NBT tags. I'm predicting that it will take an extra long amount of time to support the latest version, so with that said, I believe that starting to make these changes before the major version releases will reduce the amount of time it takes to port the client. the devs are competent human beings, they can decide for themselves whether or not they want to or need to do this

Personally, I start messing with update related code only once the pre-releases start rolling out. Snapshots are, in my opinion, too unpredictable in what they could change between eachother.

Looking at the current state of things, with already 10 snaphost released between December 18 2023 and February 28 2024, I believe it's best to wait.
