Ability to reshape the existing line/polygon geometries
Currently, it is not possible to reshape other geometries apart from points. It will be difficult to have an intuitive way of re-shaping lines and areas:
- [ ] Moving existing nodes
- [ ] Adding new nodes
- [ ] Removing existing nodes
- [ ] And maybe moving the whole feature
- [ ] Delete a feature and redraw it
- [x] Split feature
Tested using Input in the field. The ability to reshape an existing line is important in the following use case scenario: Footpath condition assessment, need to add photos as walking long section of unknown length of footpath. I dont know when the section ends. Atm I need to record with 1st point of line walk the length and record end point of line. I then need to retrace steps, edit record and add photos. Atm it extends survey time significantly. Any suggested workarounds please? I could add a point to log start of section, walk and add photos, then add another to log end of section. However this then requires a lot of back office faff to create a line feature and add the photos to that feature. I could also record a small line record at the start of the path section, click done, edit it and add photos as I'm walking, then add a point at the end of the path section, then back in the office edit the geometry of the line to extend to the point signifying end of the path section. Again, more back office faff. Can you implement the ability to change line geometry please? Any suggested workarounds in the meantime?
has it been implemented?
Hi @Andrea996, no this has not yet been implemented in Input. Currently it is possible to only edit geometry of point features.
Split feature is now implemented in #2137
The ability to reshape (edit) geometry will be included in the next release! 🎉
Great news, this ticket can now be closed, Mergin Maps 1.8.0 will include geometry editing

Excellent news. Thanks to the team for their hard work.
